Biography

Sergei Govorov is an internationally recognized saxophonist, Yamaha Artist, educator, and producer whose performances bridge the worlds of classical, contemporary, and smooth jazz music. With more than twenty-five years of performing and teaching experience, he has appeared throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, earning recognition for his expressive artistry, innovative programming, and dedication to expanding the saxophone repertoire.

Educated at some of Russia’s most prestigious music institutions—including the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, the Urals Mussorgsky Conservatory, and the Tchaikovsky College of Music—Sergei studied under the legendary Professor Margarita Shaposhnikova, founder of the Russian School of Saxophone. He later continued his artistic development in France with internationally renowned saxophonists Claude Delangle, Jean-Denis Michat, and Vincent David. He is a member of the Eurasian Association of Saxophonists and has served as a juror for international competitions including Yamaha Fest, Live Sound, and Saxotone.

Throughout his career, Sergei has performed at major concert halls and international festivals across Europe, Asia, and the United States, including appearances in New York, Montreux, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Egypt, and numerous cities throughout America. Equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician, and crossover artist, he has collaborated with orchestras, organists, chamber ensembles, and internationally recognized musicians. His long-standing artistic partnership with internationally acclaimed concert pianist Vladimir Khomyakov has led to numerous performances and recordings, including the album Desert Sax and the concert program Classics vs. Jazz. In 2024, Sergei also appeared in the United States alongside Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak and Vladimir Khomyakov in a special crossover performance.

Sergei’s discography reflects his passion for exploring new musical directions while expanding the expressive possibilities of the saxophone. His album Faith features contemporary works for saxophone and organ, including several world-premiere recordings. His 2025 release Desert Sax, recorded with Vladimir Khomyakov, explores the meeting point of classical tradition and contemporary expression. The single Romantic, written by internationally renowned composer Michael Yanis and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Darren Rahn, marked another important milestone in his artistic career. His forthcoming solo album, The Voice Within, presents an intimate collection of unaccompanied saxophone performances, revealing the instrument’s full expressive range through a deeply personal musical journey.

In addition to his solo career, Sergei is the artistic director of two original concert projects. Zlata Nova Ensemble is a crossover chamber ensemble featuring saxophone, two violins, cello, piano, and cajón, presenting original arrangements of rock and pop classics, film music, and contemporary neoclassical works while bringing together instruments traditionally associated with different musical genres into a single artistic voice. His second project, The Band is a contemporary smooth jazz ensemble dedicated to original music and fresh interpretations of modern favorites, combining sophisticated musicianship with an engaging and accessible concert experience.

Looking ahead, Sergei continues to expand both his performing and recording career. New releases scheduled for 2026 include Body and Soul, Rafinad, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, alongside concert tours and new crossover productions that continue to explore the limitless possibilities of the saxophone.

Whether performing as a soloist, collaborating with chamber musicians, or leading innovative crossover ensembles, Sergei Govorov is committed to creating performances that transcend stylistic boundaries and connect with audiences through sincerity, artistry, and the universal language of music.

Music is the art…

MUSIC IS THE ART OF TURNING SOUND INTO EMOTION. WHEN SHARED WITH HONESTY, IT BECOMES A LANGUAGE THAT EVERY HEART UNDERSTANDS.”
