Saxophone Lessons
Master the Craft. Find Your Voice.
Perform with Confidence.
With over 25 years of teaching experience and more than 1,500 students taught, Sergei Govorov offers a rare blend of deep academic knowledge, international performance experience, and a personalized, student-centered approach.
Holding a Doctorate in Music from the Gnesin Russian Academy — and having taught at institutions such as Moscow State University, as well as his own saxophone school — Sergei has helped hundreds of students grow from curious beginners into confident performers. His students have ranged from children taking their first steps in music to advanced university-level saxophonists and professional musicians preparing for auditions, recordings, and international competitions.
A proud torchbearer of the Russian classical performance tradition, Sergei studied under the legendary Margarita Shaposhnikova, founder of the Russian School of Saxophone. He also completed advanced internships with world-renowned professors in France, including Claude Delangle, Jean-Denis Michat, and Vincent David. At the same time, Sergei has embraced and integrated the best elements of European and American teaching philosophies, creating a well-rounded and globally-informed approach to instruction.
Sergei’s lessons emphasize tone, phrasing, musicality, technique, and — above all — expression. Drawing from his classical foundation and decades of work in jazz and contemporary genres, he helps each student find their unique voice through the instrument.
A Yamaha Artist, Sergei is also the author of several educational and methodical publications, including the widely used Let’s Sax Again series. Among his students are winners and prizewinners of national and international saxophone competitions, a testament to the strength of his teaching and mentorship.
Private one-on-one lessons are available in-person across the United States, while online lessons are offered worldwide for intermediate and advanced students, both in classical and contemporary styles. Lessons can be conducted in English or Russian.
Whether you’re preparing for conservatory, rekindling your love for the saxophone, or seeking a master’s guidance to refine your craft — you’ll find in Sergei a mentor who understands both the discipline and the joy of making music.
